This recipe is an Afghan staple, introduced to Food Literacy
Center by local Afghan caterer, Florence Amin-Popalza. Cucumbers,
garlic, and dill are highlighted in this refreshing recipe, which
can be eaten on its own or used as a dip! It’s a perfect dish to
make during spring and early summer when cucumbers are ripe and
in-season.
Masto Khyar Recipe
Yield: 2 cups

Ingredients
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 cucumber, peeled and diced
- 1 garlic clove, peeled and minced
- 1 Tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions for Adults
Assist with supervision of safe knife skills and measuring.
Instructions for Kids
In a medium bowl, stir together the yogurt, cucumbers, and
garlic. Add the dill, salt, and pepper. Stir together. Cover and
refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
