Sacramento, CA – This week, Sacramento’s Food Literacy Center announced Chefs Aidan Hennessey and Dennis Sydnor of Team Potato as the winners of its 2024 Veggie of the Year competition. The chef duo beat out four other local chefs with their recipe for Potato Pierogi with BBQ Potato Chips, using potatoes as a featured ingredient. The win came with a heartwarming twist: Chef Aidan is also a former food literacy student!

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – Getting children to eat vegetables can become a battle of the wills in many households. Sometimes parents hide vegetables in pizza or a smoothie. They play games to encourage a few “try bites” of a radish. In some households, there isn’t an opportunity to reject a new vegetable or fruit because they are not in the home. But the Food Literacy Center is changing that.

Floyd Farms at Leataata Floyd Elementary will be home to a city-run community garden, Food Literacy Center’s cooking school and student gardens managed by the nonprofit’s program staff.
