Jay Hansen, school board member of Sacramento City Unified School District, has over 20 years of experience in advocating and supporting public school children, parents, working families, and his community. He has extensive government experience from his previous position as the Legislative Director for California’s building trades workers and in the State Capital for four different Speakers of the Assembly. Jay currently works as the Chief Strategy Officer for the California Medical Association. Additionally, he is an appointee of Governor Jerry Brown to the California Health Facilities Financing Authority. He is an alumnus of Occidental College with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. Jay is dedicated to promoting wellbeing and good health, especially amongst children. He was appointed to Team California for Healthy Kids in which he focuses on Children’s Healthcare and Nutrition in statewide program to increase physical activity and healthy eating in schools. As a SCUSD school board member, Jay was part of a unanimous school board vote for Food Literacy Center to operate a 2.5 acre cooking kitchen and learning garden based on the Leataata Floyd Elementary School campus.
