Food Literacy Book Club

Food Literacy Book Club

We’re total book nerds, especially when it comes to the latest research on our food system. Learning with others is more fun, so we’re launching a monthly Food Literacy Book Club in partnership with the Sacramento Public Library!

The books are based on the reading list of our Food Literacy Academy. Discussions will be lead by a rotation of experts, including certified Food Literacy Geniuses, food literacy staff, library staff, and local experts. Because we’re reading about food, we’ll meet in local restaurants, which will also rotate.

We’d love you to join us!

Our first book is It’s Not About the Broccoli: Three Habits to Teach Your Kids for a Lifetime of Healthy Eating by Dina Rose, PhD. The author shares a similar sociological approach to Food Literacy Center: encouraging kids to build a lifetime of healthy habits through positive reinforcement and repetitive exposure. It will change the way you think about your plate and inspire your family to make healthy improvements.

Join us!

Our first book club will meet during Food Literacy Month at Ten22 at 6pm on Wednesday, September 3 to discuss the book. Location to be announced soon. We encourage you to stop by the public library to pick up a copy of the book and start reading!

For details on location, future book selections, and to sign up for the club, register here. You can also sign up to receive future emails and “like” our Facebook page, where we’ll post details as they become available each month.
