Kids Delight in Food Literacy Pizza Party
Our final class party was a huge hit! So many wonderful community members came out to play with our kids and encourage them to eat their veggies.
Chef Adam Pechal brought his mobile wood-burning pizza oven, and used food donated from the Sacramento Food Bank to prepare amazing pizza sauce and toppings for the kids’ first pizza-making experience.
Feeding Crane Farms’ Chef Paul Poore and California Food Literacy Center board member Shannin Stein were also on hand to help kids roll dough, top pizzas, and make sure they went to the salad station before the pizza station.
Hanks Hens gave each student a healthy tomato plant start to encourage their inner gardener.
Assemblymember Roger Dickinson’s staffer, Asael Sala, passed out certificates of completion to every child. They were thrilled that a “friend of President Obama” had taken the time to make them a certificate.
Chef Michael Tuohy, who recently returned to Sacramento from Napa, and who is serving as an Honorary Chef to California Food Literacy Center for an upcoming restaurant campaign called EatSMART, was on hand to help the kids enjoy being little chefs for the day.
Board members Peg Tomlinson-Poswall, Elise Bauer of Simply Recipes and other volunteers and supporters came out to wish the kids well. Garrett McCord of Vanilla Garlic helped prep veggies for the kids, too.
Talk about a community day of food literacy! And these were only a portion of the amazing folks who turned up for the fun!
