New Garden Classes at Food Literacy Center

Jicama, jicama, hooray! We taught our very first garden class!

Our new Garden Educator put all their hard work planning and prepping into play with a special introductory lesson to gardening and growing your own food.

In their first lesson, students learned about safety, established group agreements, and began identifying some common language and tools used in gardening.

At the end of their lesson, students had the opportunity to do a produce tasting featuring jicama. Our team saw lots of smiles and heard many kids shout out, “Wow, this is really good!”

Lessons are currently provided for students at Leataata Elementary School in their outdoor school garden, where they can experience the outdoors and do hands-on gardening.
