Gerine Williams
Community Engagement Manager
Gerine Williams joined Food Literacy Center in 2023. She serves as the Community Engagement Manager, managing the Oak Park Farmers Market. Gerine believes in bridging the intersection of food education, equity, and culture.
Gerine has 15 years of experience serving Sacramento’s food system. In 2011, she volunteered at Plates Cafe, where local celebrity chef, Patrick Mulvaney helped shape her understanding of farm-to-fork before it became a movement.
In 2015, Gerine began her journey with the Oak Park Farmers Market as a volunteer. She was quickly promoted to join the market staff, where she served for 5 years until returning to the market in 2023 to lead its transition to Food Literacy Center, where it remains a program under her care today. At the market, Gerine has championed initiatives that connect children to healthy food, support small-scale and BIPOC farmers, and turn market days into cultural celebrations. Under her leadership, the market continues to be a model of inclusive, community-first engagement.
In 2024 Gerine successfully launched the nonprofit’s Food Adventure Dinner Series. This fundraising dinner series is an opportunity for guests to experience Food Literacy Center recipes accompanied by a unique dining experience. Gerine uses her culinary background and relationships to create joyful, educational food experiences that center children, families, and underserved communities.
Gerine serves as a Slow Food Sacramento board member. She believes in building a food system that is just, joyful, and accessible to all.
