Calling all kids in California! To celebrate Food Literacy Month, join our exciting contest to create a healthy recipe for your very own Food Literacy Sandwich! NOTE: Deadline is extended to Sept 14!

What’s Food Literacy?

Understanding the impact of your food choices on your health, the environment, and our community.

The contest runs from Sept 2-14 and we invite kids from K – 12th grade in California to submit their recipes & essays.

  • Create your Food Literacy Sandwich
  • Write your recipe down
  • Explain why this recipe represents ‘food literacy’ for you in 300 words or less.
  • Send your recipe & short essay, along with your name, age, grade, and name of school to info@foodliteracycenter.org  no later than 5pm (PST) on Friday, Sept 14, 2012.

Your recipes will be featured on the California Food Literacy Center website and our Facebook followers will vote for the top four finalists, one from each of the following age categories:

  • Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
  • 3rd – 5th Grade
  • 6th – 8th Grade
  • 9th – 12th Grade

A team of local chefs will select a winner out of the 4 finalists at our launch party on Sept 29. The winner will receive a $100 Target gift card and each of the 3 finalists will receive a $25 Target gift card, thanks to Simply Recipes.
