Sacramento River Delta Grown Agri-Tourism Association Presents Wine and Produce Passport Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, the Sacramento River Delta Grown Agri -Tourism Association (SRDGAA) is hosting their 3rd annual Wine and Produce Passport Weekend.

Come with family and friends in tow to improve your food literacy and engage in some locavorian food fun!

Close to Sacramento and Elk Grove, various farms and wineries along the Sacramento Delta along Highway 160 will be open to the public Saturday, August 9, and Sunday, August 10. Farms are open from 9-5 while wineries will be open from 11-5. Visitors are welcome to begin at any one of the pick up locations to check in for wristband and receive a special passport bag with the weekend schedule and then visit any of the open farms or wineries they wish to visit.

 

Maps will be available at all stops. Ticket proceeds will go towards sustaining the local family farms involved in the event. Tickets for adults are $15 and kids under 16 are free. Tickets are good for both days and are available for purchase at www.deltapassport2014.eventbrite.com.

 

Enjoy farm tours, activities for children, local wine tastings, farm equipment displays, and contests while traveling through the Delta to the farms and wineries. Fresh produce including tomatoes, pears, melons, squash, stone fruits, sweet corn, zucchini, beans, eggs, and more will be readily available at some of the stops.  New this year, visitors can enter a special “Traveled the Delta Grown Trail” drawing win one of two baskets filled with Delta Grown Trail products, when Passports stamped with at least 5 stops are turned in.

 

The SRDGAA is striving to raise awareness of the Delta farming community. “We want to raise awareness of agri-production on the Sacramento Delta and support our local family farms while enjoying the weekend and having a great time.” said Michael McDowell, President of SRDGAA.

 

Passport events bags for visitors are available for pick up at Backyard Basics, Vierra Farms, Maggi’s Farm, and Delta Farmers Market. Address for all stops are located on the Delta Grown website.
