Homemade “Fast Food” Bean Burrito

In several nutrition classes with youth, we have demonstrated how simple, fast and cheap it is to make a bean burrito at home. It costs less than a fast food burrito and is healthier as well!

Instead of driving to a fast food outlet to get your burrito, make this simple recipe at home. You can add any of your favorites to jazz it up, such as sauteed vegetables or meat.

Serves 1

“Fast Food” Bean Burrito

Ingredients:

  • 1 flour tortilla
  • ½ cup canned beans, whole or refried
  • 1 teaspoon diced onion
  • 2 Tablespoons salsa
  • .5 oz shredded cheese

Instructions:

Lay tortilla flat on a microwave-safe plate. Top with beans, onion, salsa, & cheese. Fold tortilla to close. Microwave 1 to 2 minutes or until warm.
