Our curriculum, “Your Peanut Butter Sandwich Can Save the World,” featured a couple of cooking lessons to teach kids how to follow simple recipes to make their own healthy snacks. The kids had a great time spooning and mashing the avocados, and mixing in the other ingredients. Avocados, filled with healthy fats and vitamins, are incredibly nutritious for a growing child. Make this recipe with the kids in your life; they will have a great time and a yummy snack to enjoy!
- 1/2 an avocado, seed removed
- 1 teaspoon diced tomato
- 1 teaspoon chopped cilantro
- 1/2 teaspoon diced onion
- 1 teaspoons lime juice
Note: Parents or teachers should prep ingredients above. Then allow children to prepare using the instructions below.
Using a spoon, scoop the flesh out of the avocado and place in a bowl. Using a fork, mash the avocado until it’s creamy, but still has small chunks.
Add the tomato, cilantro, onion, and lime juice. Stir to combine.
Eat immediately with tortilla chips.
